Fillers
Fillers are used to soften deep wrinkles and give volume to for example the lips, sunken cheeks and temples. Our cosmetic doctors work with a variety of fillers that each have unique characteristic in the rejuvenation process.
Wrinkles & Volume
After our 30s our skin stops making collagen by itself. As such the skin visibly starts to age - the face loses volume and wrinkles appear. It may however also be that the face never has had the desired amount of volume - for example in the lips. We have a choice between two types of fillers to give volume to the face and smoothen wrinkles:
- Hyaluronic acid
- Dynamic fillers
During the intake the cosmetic doctor will determine which filler best fits your wishes. In the case of superficial wrinkles Botox® might give the best results.
We use exclusively:
Intake
The first step is always an intake with our cosmetic doctor. During this consultation our exact method, your wishes and the realistic possibilities are discussed.
Customized treatment
During the consultation the doctor inspects the area that is to be treated. Because every type of skin, wrinkle and volume loss is different we need to customize each treatment for optimal results. The exact price and the number of treatments required therefore also differ for each person.
For an intake we charge € 50,-. In most cases we can plan an intake with a treatment directly after, if so desired and requested in advance.
Unique faces ask for unique, customized treatments.
Pre-care
During the consultation the doctor will inquire about your medicine use. The use of anticoagulants (blood thinners) right before the treatment may lead to complications. In case you use such medicine this would probably have to be ceased 1 week before the treatment, in consultation with your family doctor.
Any make-up will be removed before the treatment starts.
Treatment
The filler is injected under the skin, at the location where more volume is wanted. As such the lips can be enhanced, but also for example the (sunken) cheeks or temples. Deep wrinkles, such as those running from the nose to the corners of the mouth, can also be smoothened significantly.
No needles
Fillers can also be administered without needle. With a so-called cannula the risk of bruising is minimal and the treatment is practically pain free.
Over 15 years of experience
It is important that fillers are administered by a skilled doctor in order to safely achieve optimal results. We have over 15 years of experience with both hyaluronic acid and dynamic fillers and thus have treated a wide variety of faces, wrinkles, and volume loss. As such our cosmetic doctors are more than qualified to customize and perform the most effective treatment.
By administering fillers without a needle the treatment is practically pain free.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a biodegradable product which occurs naturally in the human body. There are several brands available, among which Restylane® and Juvederm®. When hyaluronic acid is injected into or under the skin, with or without a needle, the effects are immediately visible. The increase in volume will enhance during the first 2 weeks after the treatment, as the hyaluronic acid attracts extra moisture. After 3 to 6 months the filler has been broken down by the body. It may then be desired to undergo a follow-up treatment.
The result from fillers made up of hyaluronic acid is almost directly visible.
Dynamic fillers
Sculptra®, Radiesse®, and Ellansé® are examples of dynamic fillers. Once these fillers have been injected into or under the skin, with needle or cannula, they will stimulate the local production of collagen. The collagen in return will strengthen and rejuvenate the skin. After some time (a few weeks), the filler has been almost fully broken down by the body. As such the volume will seem to have decreased. However, in the weeks that follow the production of collagen is still stimulated. This is why it may take up to a few months before the final result is achieved and visible. It may also be that follow-up treatments are needed to achieve the desired results.
After care
After a filler treatment the following practical matters apply:
- Extreme heat (sauna and tanning bed) and cold is discouraged.
- No sports on the day of the treatment.
- Some bruises, edema, and redness may appear. This disappears in due time by itself.
- Directly after the treatment you can go to work. Do take into account potential bruises.
- During the first 6 weeks you need to protect the treated area with a proper sunscreen (factor 30 or higher). Any potential bruises need to be especially well-protected.
Result
With dynamic fillers it may take up to months before the desired result becomes visible, whereas with hyaluronic acid the results are optimal within two weeks. Both types of fillers stimulate the production of collagen, causing the skin to rejuvenate.
Hyaluronic acid remains in the skin for a period of 3 to 18 months, after which it is broken down by the body. Dynamic fillers have been broken down within a couple of weeks, but the production of collagen will go on for a few months onwards. This makes the treatment with dynamic fillers a lengthy process. However, they can give longer results in the end.
The cosmetic doctor will determine which filler fits your wishes best.
Both smoking and excessive sun tanning have a negative effect on the result of the treatment. Both factors accelerate the aging process of the skin.
Follow-up treatment
In case the desired effect has not sufficiently been achieved a control treatment can take place between 2 and 4 weeks after the treatment. A follow-up treatment can then possibly be planned or performed directly. In most cases we see that follow-up treatments provide an even more effective and longer lasting result.
